| The Tampa Jazz Club was incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1995, with the objective of “generating interest in preserving, understanding and performing jazz.” We’ve held Sunday concerts for the last several years, many at the Gorilla Theatre in Drew Park, some at the Springs Theatre in Sulpher Springs, including some great regional and national artists in what’s become one of Tampa’s best ongoing cultural events. This year, we’ll be partnering with Hillsborough Community College’s Student Activities program to present some exciting shows at the beautiful, state-of-the-art HCC Performing Arts Building Theater in Ybor City. Also, since 2003, we have awarded Tampa Jazz Club scholarships to graduating Hillsborough County high school seniors (many with matching funds from the Unsinkable Molly Brown Foundation), who went on to study jazz performance or education. To date, we have awarded $14,750 to 12 graduates, including the popular young flute phenom and recording artist Jose´Valentino. The Tampa Jazz Club is committed to encouraging talented young jazz students and to presenting great live jazz in Tampa. |
